The building of Basilica of Bom Jesus church was the beginning of Christianity in India. This church is considered as the oldest church in Goa, which is located in Bainguinim, 10 km away from Panaji, however, it holds the remains of St. Francis Xavier who was a special friend of St. Ignatius Loyola, with whom he founded Jesuits (the Society of Jesus). Even after 400 years later, the remains of St. Francis Xavier are in pretty good condition and are taken out every decade for once.

The church, Basilica of Bom Jesus is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because it holds rich culture and religious significant. The front of the church is in a triangular roofing shape having the sign of IHS, which is an abbreviation for Jesuit meaning; ‘Jesus, Savior of Men’.
